OLEINS

WASTES FROM REFINING OF OLEINS

The oleins are a waste generated from the chemical refining of crude oil. Their characteristics vary depending on the type of seed from which they come (rapeseed, soy or palm mainly) and are usually the following

CHARACTERISTICS OF OLEINS

FFA around 50%

High content on sulfur (100-300ppm)

MIU max 1%

Lodine Value vary depending on the kind of seed

POME

POME is a waster/sludge arising from palm oil production usually released to open ponds. The oil extracted from POME is often referred to as “Palm Sludge Oil” or “Sludge Palm.

Oil”. The oil extracted from that POME is used to manufacture biodiesel although it is a product that needs a very strong pretreatment because it has a really high content of sulfur and phosphorus.

SOAPSTOCK

It is a residue obtained from the soaps used in the chemical neutralization of crude oil. After treating it with a strong acid you get a fatty part that is olein. From one metric tonne of soapstock you get between 20 and 50% of oleins.

SBE (Solvent Bleaching Earth Oil)

It is obtained from the extraction with exane of the fatty part that remains in the bleaching earth that is used to eliminate metals and other parameters in the vegetable oil refineries. That oil that is recovered is a waste that can be transformed into biofuel.
